STEER Project Reports
We Give a Sip started life as the STEER Project and provided Voluntary Breath Testing at festivals and community events from 2013 through to 2020.
These are some of the surprising discoveries we made with STEER…
- 90% of those intending to drive had been drinking (Byron Shire Community Events 2016)
- 68% of patrons engage with STEER voluntary breath testing based on curiosity (Falls Festival 2016/17)
- 65% of patrons had no idea of their BAC (Ballina Prawn Festival 2016)
- 40% of patrons aged 60-69 had BAC’s over 0.1 compared to 8% of patrons aged under 20 (Byron Shire Community Events 2016)
- 92% of green p platers intending to drive had a BAC over 0.0 (Splendour 2016)
- 42% of full licence holders intending to or thinking about driving had consumed 3-4 standard drinks (Splendour 2017)
- 94% of those intending to drive and testing over their limit intended to change their behaviour (Splendour 2018)
